Psalms 46:10 is amazing! If you’ve been in Summit any, you’ve probably heard me talk about this verse in the Bible before. Here is what it says:

“Be still and KNOW that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.”

If you’re family is anything like mine then your summer is already getting pretty full. Your rundown probably is pretty similar; camps, retreats, vacations, ball games, more camps, church activities, more ball games, visiting family from out of town, more church activities… and on and on the list goes. Here are two things to hang on to throughout your summer.

Stop some stuff! I can hear the groans now, and yes I know how difficult that is. There is this amazing little english word that can really help us out with this. Say it with me. I know you’ve heard it before… “NO!” Practice this word and use it some.

In the midst of going, keep your focus up. Check out the story of Elijah in I Kings 19:8-17. Notice in the midst of all the activity, Elijah heard God in the whisper. So when you can’t or shouldn’t stop some things, keep that razor sharp focus on God and his voice.

Hello students and parents,

Wednesday, May 12th: Summit Parents and Students Meeting 6pm-6:30pm in the Summit House
Because of the Fish Fry scheduled for that evening, Summit will not have our regularly scheduled programming. Parents and students are invited instead for an informational meeting about Summit’s plans for the Summer and into the next Fall. We are enhancing some programming elements and scheduling in Summit so that we can better hit the mark of INVITING and INVOLVING students so they can be better INFLUENCED for Christ. Other leaders and I, as we have prayed and talked together, are super excited about the potential we have to reach and disciple students. So come be a part of that process with us!

Sunday, May 16th: Final World Changers Prep Meeting 2pm-3:30pm in the Summit House
It’s vital that every student participating, and their parents as well, attend this final prep meeting. The richness of this experience in missions is undoubtedly tied our commitment in preparation, spiritually and as a team. I’ll see all of you there!

We’re in the middle of our series on “Mousetrap: Temptation, Discernment and Wisdom” and the last message in a couple of weeks really speaks to consistency.

Here’s a truth to hang you hat on… UNWISE DECISIONS (inconsistency) DAMAGES AND DISTANCES THOSE CLOSEST TO US!!!

Don’t believe me? Then think about friends or family that you have a damaged or distanced relationship with… Now answer this question. Is it a damaged or distanced relationship because either you or them made unwise decisions about purity, temptation, God or any other major thing in life?

Check out Ephesians 5 starting around verse 15 and read into the next chapter. We’ll jump in there together in 2 weeks!

The target for our Wednesday Night student worship is for students to INVITE and INVOLVE their friends so they can be INFLUENCED for Christ!

Several things are going on behind the scenes to give you guys, our students, a better shot at accomplishing this. We’ve started asking, “if that is the tree and the target for Wednesdays… Do we create the best place for you to do this?” In some ways, YES!, In other ways, NO!

So over the next weeks and months we are going to continue working behind the scenes for some big changes over the summer and into next fall. Summit leaders and I want students to get excited because we are raisng the bar on making Summit a place you DO want to invite your friends.

I had a friend that I used to go kayaking with. He was a SOLID boater. He had a 100% roll and regularly paddled class IV and some class V rivers. He and his wife had their first baby a couple of years ago and he had to step away from kayaking for a little while.

The last time I went boating with him was on the Nantahala last year. The Nantahala is only really a class II, III river, so I thought it would be a piece of cake for my buddy who hadn’t boated in only 10 months. Right out of the gate, the first rapid we hit, he flips, tries to roll twice, misses both attempts to right the boat and swims.

Did you hear what I said, my buddy, who was an AMAZING boater, got out of the environment of kayaking for only ten months, and then screwed up the first rapid he hits and has to go for a swim.

Consistency in kayaking, and in your spiritual life, matters. It’s possible to get “it” and then, through a change in your environment, to not get “it”. And don’t miss this,It’s because of the environment you’re in. Check out the principle laid out in Psalm one. Keep your ears open in Summit over the next month to find out the best environment!
